10 on the 10th: kitchen gadgets

I've had so much fun participating in Mer's 10 on the 10th each month. This time around, I wanted to share a list of my most-used kitchen tools and gadgets. Here they are, in no particular order:

1. mini whisk--I prefer this style for mixing sauces, and think it's easier to clean than a regular whisk.

2. mini spatula--This was a gift from my Noel swap partner. I would never have thought to buy one of these, but it sure does come in handy for small containers!

3. silicone pastry brush--So much nicer than the old-school ones whose bristles cling together

4. pineapple slicer--Definitely has a learning curve, but nice for a quick slicing job

5. immersion blender--Recommended by my sister-in-law, this is my go-to for baby food, smoothies and other purees. It's easy to use and amazingly powerful!

6. metal skewers--No need to soak before making kebabs. Plus, there's no waste!

7. apple corer--So handy. Love it.

8. nut grinder--I know most people probably buy already-chopped nuts, but this is how I grew up doing it.

9. stainless steel scoop--I love this scoop for measuring sticky ingredients like shortening and peanut butter.

10. angled measuring cup--Certainly not a necessity, but I appreciate the convenience.

One item not on my list that I know a lot of other people love is this. It always makes my hand hurt when I use it. Maybe I press it too hard?!

What are some of your favorite kitchen tools?

For more lists of 10, click here.

Note: I provided links to the exact items I own and use, except for the skewers and the pastry brush, which are close substitutes.

Let's see if I can think of my 10 favorites:

1. Metal scoop - same one you showed!
2. Apple slicer - again, same!
3. Kitchen shears
4. Stainless measuring spoons - a gift that came from Crate and Barrel
5. Kitchen Aid hand mixer and blender attachment
6. Pampered Chef Veggie peeler
7. PC Pizza Cutter
8. Finally, I have a good knife!
9. Whisks of various kinds
10. Glass measuring cups of various sizes! I'm not as big of a fan of the angled one (though I DO use it!) because it is nearly impossible to stir things in!

Fun list!

You are so on the ball. I've got to get my post written!

I fell asleep at 8:30 last night (was soooooo tired) and haven't started it yet this morning).

Okay, I don't have some of the things on your list and now I think I need them!

You come up with some pretty clever 10 on the 10th lists, Carrie!

4. Scissors (I miss my shears!)
5. A set of dry measuring cups
6. Measuring spoons
7. Glass measuring cups
8. Pastry cutter
9. Whisk
10. Rolling pin

Fun post! :-)

Considering my kitchen has been packed away since July, I'll list the kitchen gadgets that I miss most instead.
1. PC food chopper
2. PC metal scoop - same as yours
3. PC small micro cooker - great for melting butter or steaming veggies
4. meat pounder - soup ladels are an ok substitute
5. Corningware - works in the oven, is presentable at the meal, and comes with plastic lids to easily store leftovers.
6. Paring knife
7. Air bake cookie sheets
8. PC large serving spatula
9. Tupperware 9x13 pan
10. PC clock/timer - actually this is just a favorite. I even took it to Jerusalem.
Mostly, Pampered Chef has yet to arrive in Israel...at least in this apartment.

My favorite kitchen gadgets? Hmmm. . . since my husband is the real chef, I would have to say, Larry is my favorite kitchen gadget. . .LOL!

Seriously, he loves the slanted measuring cup too.

But my absolute ABSOLUTE favorite kitchen gadget is silcone baking sheets. I make chocolate crinkle cookies at Christmas and they are covered with powdered sugar, and these life savers let the cookies slide right off. Love them!!!

I share a love for many of the same gadgets (mini spatula, pineapple slicer, scoop, corer) and now I'm wishing for some that are on your list that I don't have, like the pastry brush and the immersion blender. I was never crazy for the PC food chopper either. It didn't hurt my hand, but it just seemed clumsy to me. If kitchen gadgets can indeed by clumsy. Maybe it was just the user. I have a mini processor that I use to chop stuff.

(I came over by way of Meredith's 10 on the 10th lists.)

You are the second person to say the hand mixer thingy is one of your favorites. Now I'm super curious to try one!

I love:
1)My PC pizza stone
2)My big orange knife like the one Racheal Ray uses
3)Cuisanart mini food processor
4)PC chopper (really, I love it!)
5)Bowls...I have an entire cupboard of bowls just because I like them so much!

I have some friends who love the PC slicer. That thing scares me! I feel like I'd lose a finger for sure!

Great 10 on the 10th idea! I hadn't seen a nut grinder, but cool! I like smaller whisks, too, and those brown nylon scrapers from Pampered Chef. I've broken mine, but I was a heavy user of the small spatula, too. Will have to check out that pineapple slicer and the immersion blender.

Love this list! A lot of mine are the same as yours.

1. S/S scoops
2. Garlic press
3. Kitchen shears
4. Immersion blender
5. Angled and glass measuring cups
6. Cutco knives
7. Cutco peeler
8. Pampered Chef Mix 'N' scrapers. I have about 4 of those things!
9. Silicone baking sheets
10.PC timer-I have a couple of these too. I actually run with one (don't judge), it's easier than a running watch!

Is that metal scoop you have from Pampered Chef? I use mine to make the perfect sized cookie.....it gets used quite often around Christmastime! Love the pineapple deal-a-ma-bob....I love fresh pineapple, but have no idea how to cut one....I may have to look into one of those. TFS.

Great post. I think I'll copy you soon!

My absolute favorite is a liquid measurer for up to 1 oz/2 Tablespoons. It looks like a shot glass.

My list would also include the silicon pastry brush and the mini scoop.

I would also include a garlic press, a pampered chef knife that I LOVE, kitchen shears, and my pizza stone!

I use my apple wedger almost every day.

I know what you mean about the food chopper hurting your hand. Most of the time it's worth it though! :)

Great list! I agree on the Pampered Chef food chopper. I got rid of mine -- it hurt my hand every time I used it and didn't chop things evenly. I'd end up with big chunks of onion that I had to cut with a knife anyway.

As for my top 10 favorite kitchen gadgets:
1. Pampered Chef vegetable peeler
2. Whisks that can go in the dishwasher
3. Rubber scrapers
4. Good knife (thanks!)
5. Silicone pastry brush (just like yours)
6. Measuring cups/spoons of all kinds
7. Scoop like yours
8. Easy-to-use can opener
9. Blender
10. CrockPot

Love you lots, Mom
