Back-en-packs

One of the items on Nathan's preschool supply list was a backpack. I got excited thinking about some of the cute toddler-sized ones I've seen, but the list specifically requested full-size children's backpacks, so I had to comply. Being the practical girl I am, I opted for a plaid style that will grow with him, but I think these designs are super cute!

Speaking of super cute, Nathan intitially called his backpack a back-en-pack. Love that!

Still speaking of super cute, and while we're talking backpacks, I thought you might enjoy a couple vintage photos of two sisters on the first day of school:

circa 1985 (Monica-4th grade, Carrie-1st grade)

circa 1987 (Monica-6th grade, Carrie-3rd grade)
I think it's funny to note how styles have changed--apparently totes used to be more in favor than backpacks. I don't even remember that. Do you?!
Note: I wasn't able to make the photos any larger that this, but you can try clicking on them if you want to see more details of our trend-setting fashions!

Hee Hee - super cute. I love what Nathan said too! As far as totes, I do remember really wanting one of the super-popular Espirit tote bags when I was in HS. Remember that? Didn't you have one too?

Too cute!!! :-) Love it! I wasn't able to click on the photos to enlarge them, but I think those totes on wheels had the right idea! Love the lunch boxes and that adorable rust-colored skirt with the cream band trim! That is totally something I would love to make my daughter!

(And I just saw Monica's comment ~ oh ~ I wanted an "Espirit" bag so bad too, but I settled for a "fake" one...hee hee. I had totally forgotten about that!) Fun vintage post Carrie!

What cute girls with their tote bags, lunch boxes, and back-en-packs on the first day of school! :) Love you both, Mom

So cute! I remember wanting a cool lunch box so bad but Mom had matching generic red Tupperware ones for all of us. (And I wonder where I get my practical side! haha) Super functional and sealed tight!

I remember having a tote bag in the 1st or 2nd grade that I loved!

Nathan is so cute! We picked up our 4 year old friend the other day and he pointed out all the restaurants on the way home including "MisCalister's" (McAlister's)! So cute!

Ok, now I'm realizing as I look closer what I thought was a tote on wheels probably didn't have wheels!?? Ha! (I have seen some cute totes on wheels for kids though somewhere!) I hope you have a great weekend.

My little guy says 'pack-pack'. Love those sweet mispronunciations!

Those pictures take me back! I don't remember any specific back-packs, but I do recall my plastic Scooby Doo lunchbox. I also remember spending lots of time in my tiny hometown's 'dime-store' choosing the perfect cigar box-style pencil box and buying a red-cover Big Chief pad and fat pencils. And, although I never had any, I wanted some of those barrettes with the long ribbons and beads so badly!

I remember that NO ONE carried backpacks back in the day. It was either an Esprit or Guess tote bag or nothing. I had both. :-)
