What I don't do

Over the years, I've come across quite a few posts where other mom bloggers make a list of things they don't do. I always appreciate the lists, because it provides perspective that no one can "do it all," and I thought I'd post my own "don't do" list here, along with links to the posts that inspired me.

Here's my list of things I don't do:
I don't sew.
I don't iron.
I don't write as many letters as I used to.
I don't buy organic.
I don't do many of the crafts/projects I bookmark/pin/tear out of magazines.
I don't scrapbook.
I don't turn off the computer during the day.
I don't serve healthy snacks very often.
I don't sort laundry.
I don't do Twitter.
I don't cook gourmet meals.
I don't wear makeup or style my hair.

And I'm sure there are many more things I don't do, but that's a pretty comprehensive list.

If you want to peruse others' don't-do lists, here are some links:

Simple Mom
Money Saving Mom
The Homespun Heart

I also found a fascinating (and lengthy!) list written by Amy Dacyczyn, author of The Complete Tightwad Gazette. (Which reminds me--I never followed up on posting things I'd tried from that book. Oops!) Amy's list is on page 654 if you have the book and want to check it out.

Are these lists interesting to you? Which of the items from my list do you not do, either? (Please tell me you don't do ALL those things. Ha!)

We are very alike it seems!! I love these lists. I find them encouraging because everyone makes choices with the given resources of time and money that we have.

I love this carrie! And I think I might have to write my own "i don't" list!! I didn't realize there was one in the tightwad gazette! I'll have to check that out! (((hugs))) your posts always make me smile!

I think I'll link up on my blog with a list like this. I enjoyed yours. I also don't iron-- Brent does when things just absolutely need it!! Do you wash everything in cold? I'm interested in this no sort thing :)

I rarely comment anymore, but I had to share on this one!

I don't iron
I don't cook- my husband is much better at it!
I don't scrapbook
I don't homeschool
I don't wear make-up
I rarely wear anything but a t-shirt and yoga pants (in my defense, I do go to the gym 5 days a week so that outfit only makes sense!)
I don't sort laundry and rarely fold it quickly so it gets wrinkled
I don't write letters unless it's a thank you note
I don't Twitter
I don't blog
I don't read blogs until I have a back log of 100 or more to read and then I just skim through them!
I don't clip coupons or worry about sales
I don't craft or sew as much as I'd like

I do volunteer- a lot!
I do buy organic and worry about healthy snacks, but it's only b/c we're vegan
I do read a lot and we spend lots of time at the library
I do make my own cleaning products
I do organize
I can only think of five things I regularly 'do'... this was a great exercise in seeing our priorities!

Interesting list! I'll do what Monica did and use your list as a start --
I do sew.
I do iron.
I don't write as many letters as I used to, but I still try to write short notes.
I don't buy organic.
I do a few craft projects that I find, but not nearly as many as Monica!
I do scrapbook on a small scale.
I do turn my computer off at night.
I don't serve healthy snacks, but I think you do!
I definitely do sort laundry!
I don't Twitter.
I don't cook gourmet meals.
I do wear make-up and style my hair.

I don't volunteer anymore (did lots of that in days gone by).
I don't blog.
I don't delete e-mails from my inbox often enough.
I don't read a daily newspaper or watch TV news daily.

And I'm OK with what I don't do to free up time for what I do want to do! :) Love you lots, Mom

I loved your list - it was refreshing to see some of the things you don't do (b/c you are one of the people I know that seems to be able to do it all so well!). I have to take 'sorting the laundry' off of the list of things that I don't do - not sorting bit me in the booty last week when some new jeans turned a bunch of Harper's white onesies light blue! Oops! My mom told me to soak the items in white vinegar and it totally worked! thank goodness!

I don't sew.
I don't write as many letters as I used to.
I don't buy organic all the time.
I do turn off my computer during the day.
I don't homeschool.
I don't play the drug store game.
I don't coupon too much.

I do sort my laundry (probably enough for all of us!)

Thanks for this Carrie!
