So when I saw that Laura Story was going to be giving a FREE concert just 20 miles away, I knew I needed to be there. The mini-concert was part of a larger event we attended that was celebrating the anniversary and success of a local company.
It was a beautiful evening, and the event was situated appropriately in an Iowa cornfield. We were treated to a free supper, followed by homemade kettle corn (yum!) and take-home goodies. That already made it a fun event, but what followed was even more special.
About a half-hour before the concert was to begin, I sat down on a blanket with Naomi to watch the previous act. First, a wonderful former student who I'd worked with during my time at the college, spotted me and came over to chat. We hadn't seen each other for several years, and it was fun to re-connect. Then, a few feet away from me, a woman sat down with her baby and a couple other people. When she turned her head to the side, I knew instantly that it was Laura! I suddenly got nervous, but I knew I needed to seize the moment and greet her.
I didn't want to be a bother, but I did want to briefly let her know that her music had been very meaningful to me during a difficult time in my life. We talked for just a couple minutes, but I introduced myself and thanked her for her music. When I mentioned which song was my favorite, she responded that she'd be singing it that night. Though the conversation wasn't super-significant, it was a neat opportunity and added to the *blessing* of the night. And it was so special to hear that song performed live, especially as the sun set over the corn. Truly beautiful, and I'm glad to have been there.
What's a special blessing you've received recently?
